Current Research Activities
Neil Gray leads the G.K. Williams Research Centre for Extractive Metallurgy, which began in 1984 and is now in its 20th year. In 1991 a Cooperative Research Centre was established which was one of the first to be awarded. Since July 2001 the Centre has continued with the research focus on the modelling of rate phenomena in the processing of materials of industrial significance. A new composite copper/refractory cooling system has been patented and developed in collaboration with WMC Limited and is currently being used in industrial furnaces. Commercialisation of the CFM cooling system technology continues with the technology being solid by RHI Refractories (Vienna) and Outokumpu Engineering Contractors Oy (Finland).
